Cameroon:Cardinal Tumi tells Fru Ndi’let some else be opposition coalition candidate’
Cardinal Tumi
Cardinal Christian Tumi has advised Ni John Fru Ndi, Chairman of the
main opposition party in Cameroon, SDF to retire and let someone else be
the opposition coalition candidate. The statement from the cardinal who
has been an ardent critic of Biya’s regime explains the cry from most
Cameroonians to John Fru Ndi to forget about running for office come
2018. This implicitly means Fru Ndi should neither be the SDF standard
bearer or the bearer of a coalition opposition front should it ever come
to light. The Cardinal statement published by The Guardian Post also
highlights that there might be background work for a coordinated
coalition front.
Though it is not known if Fru Ndi will heed to the former Archbishop of Douala’s advice, many have already question if the man of God who retired in 2009,has any moral authority to advise Fru Ndi on what to do politically or if SDF will finally bulge and start preparing for a 2018 Presidential election void of Fru Ndi.

In a similar note in an interview with the weekly Jeune Afrique in
early march this year,85 years old Cardinal Christian Tumi from Paris in
France, also pointed some words which undoubtedly was unpleasant to the
CPDM militants who are demanding their party’s President Paul Biya aged
83, to be their candidate in the next presidential election. Some
militants went further demanding an anticipated presidential election
scheduled in 2018.Christian Tumi then , said ” I do not appreciate such
behavior.Instead if I was Paul Biya, I would surprise all these people
saying it’s over, I will withdraw and say I am no longer a candidate, I
would ask that my party nominates someone else to take over ,When you
are old, you can not run a country so young and complex” Retired
Cardinal Christian Tumi is quoted to have said according to the
celebrated Pan-African newspaper Jeune Afrique.
